Description
A sperm-filled sac that develops within the epididymis. The epididymis is a tube that lies on top of the testicle. Patients typically palpate a smooth firm lump above the testicle. Rarely patients experience infertility.
Symptoms
Painless mass in scrotum, painful mass in scrotum, infertility, enlarged scrotum.

A history and physical exam will be performed. An ultrasound is typically performed to confirm the diagnosis and rule out other causes of the mass.

Treatment
All scrotal masses need an evaluation. Most spermatoceles do not require therapy. Occasionally surgery is needed.
