Description

A tumor in the cavernous sinus. The cavernous sinus is one of the venous channels draining blood away from the brain. The carotid artery and cranial nerves pass through this sinus. The cavernous sinus is located at the base of the skull, behind the eyes. A tumor in this sinus can cause headache, visual problems and headache.

Symptoms

Headache, visual problems, seizures, weakness.

Tests

Common tests used for diagnosis and treatment

Workup:
A history and physical exam will be performed. Additional tests include: CT scan, MRI and/or angiography. Other tests may be performed to look for a site of cancer that spread to the cavernous sinus.

Tests:
CT Scan, Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

Neurosurgery, Pediatric Neurosurgery

Treatment

Treatment includes: surgery, catheter embolization, radiation therapy, and/or chemotherapy.
