Description
Caused by a blocked gland that becomes inflamed and infected by bacteria. Styes can develop on the eyelid margins (external hordeolum) or under the eyelid (internal hordeolum). Chronic styes can become chalazions.
Symptoms
Swelling of the eyelid, redness of the eyelid, a bump or pimple on the eyelid.

Treatment
Treatment includes warm compresses and topical antibiotics. Rarely incision and drainage is required.
