Treatment
Gingivitis can be reversed by daily removal of the bacteria that bind to the neck of the teeth, next to the gums. Treatment involves a professional cleaning that removes plaque and mineralized deposits (tartar). After treatment, gingivitis can disappear within about a week with proper brushing and flossing. Gingivitis can turn into periodontitis, the next stage of gum disease. If this occurs, further treatment will be needed.
