Treatment
Treatment depends on the extent of the tooth damage. Some cases will resolve on their own, others require filling the tooth decay and/or a root canal. Medications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications/NSAIDs (ibuprofen/Motrin or Advil, naproxen/Naprosyn or Aleve), pain medications such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) and narcotic pain medications may be prescribed. Antibiotics are used if an infection is also present.
