Description
Toe swelling can result from inflammation, infection, allergic reaction or very rarely cancer. Inflammation can be caused by trauma, arthritis, gout, or an autoimmune disease such as rheumatoid arthritis.

Treatment
Depends on the cause of the swelling but may include: immobilization, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications/NSAIDs (ibuprofen/Motrin or Advil, naproxen/Naprosyn or Aleve), pain medications such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) and/or antibiotics.
